This workshop at The Old Operating Theatre’s Herb Garrett will demonstrate the use of some common herbal remedies.
Centuries ago, these remedies would have been compounded for the patient by the apothecary. The prescription for these remedies would have been written by the patient’s physician. The apothecary would also have made remedies to sell to the public, who would often go straight to the apothecary for treatment, as physicians were often expensive. These remedies were made from the apothecary’s own specific formulas, which would have been passed down from master to apprentice. In this workshop you will learn about pills, infusion teas, infused oils, poultices and plasters, among other remedies.
This workshop is being led by medical herbalist Patricia Ferguson, who is also the herbal pharmacy tutor at the School of Herbal Medicine in Somerset.
