Wild Life Drawing at the Florence Nightingale Museum

Join us for a cosy drawing session at the Florence Nightingale Museum, studying stunning Winter Owls.

We will focus on three mesmerising species that have adapted to life in cold climates. We’ll meet a Barn Owl- with their incredible eyesight these nimble hunters can spot their prey on even the darkest of winter nights. We’ll also be joined by a Tawny Owl- their “twit twoo” calls are heard as far north as the sub-arctic forests of Siberia. Finally, we will draw a Great Grey Owl. These strikingly beautiful birds thrive in the icy landscapes of Alaska and Finland.

The class will be led by a wildlife illustrator, who will get you started with a drawing demo and her top tips for drawing a moving subject. Throughout the session they will be on hand with as much creative guidance as you would like. We will provide paper and drawing boards, as well as an array of colourful materials for you to enjoy but do bring along any of your own favourites if you’d like. The class is open to all- from beginners to advanced.

Door opens at 6pm / Event starts at 7pm

The Florence Nightingale Museum celebrates the life and work of the best known figure in nursing history. Nightingale was the founder of modern nursing, was one of our greatest Victorians and a female icon in her own lifetime. She is still an inspiration to nurses around the globe. Visit the museum to celebrate the life of this trailblazing woman; discover all about her affluent childhood, how she fought against her parents’ wishes to become a nurse, her work during the Crimean War and how she campaigned for better healthcare for ordinary people. See the actual lamp she carried which earned her the nickname The Lady With The Lamp, meet her pet owl and see her medicine chest.
