Walk for Wellbeing

  • HMS Belfast London, SE1 2JH United Kingdom (map)

Solvitur ambulando — it is solved by walking

The 4th century’s Saint Augustine is said to have coined this phrase - and many centuries on, it still holds true. In this digital age, many of us spend too many hours sitting at our desks or inside offices and workplaces. This can lead to musculoskeletal and vision problems; and for those working from home, a sense of isolation and anxiety.

The good news is that walking is a great antidote to all of these issues.

So you’re invited to join an autumn lunchtime stroll through the London Bridge neighbourhood. Expect an uplifting hour, connecting with green spaces and points of historical and cultural interest along the way.

The walk will take us along the banks of the River Thames - the lifeblood of London - and through the back streets to explore some of the borough’s more hidden corners. We will hear about the innovators and green champions who have introduced or restored the area’s pockets parks, encouraging community cohesion and more biodiversity in the face of our changing climate. Walking in the footsteps of generations of residents before us, we will learn about the vital contribution of the many immigrant communities to this area. We end in the grounds of London Bridge’s world-famous healthcare and research centre, Guy’s hospital.

We aim to inspire you to find out more, by signposting to wellbeing-related activities and venues that guests may want to explore further. And who knows, you might make some connections and friends along the way. Whether you are resident, worker or student in the London Bridge area, we look forward to welcoming you.

The tour will be fully inclusive (the route is wheelchair-accessible).

It will go ahead, whatever the weather, so please come prepared!

Meeting point: Meet on The Queen’s Walk river front - in front of HMS Belfast, opposite Morgan’s Lane. I will be wearing a team London Bridge badge.
