Living Well with Medi-Culture: Memory

  • The Hive 8 Holyrood Street London, England, SE1 2EL United Kingdom (map)

Join us for the first in a series of conversations between medical scientists and cultural figures, looking at how the ideas coming out of London Bridge make us all healthier.

For our first event we're joined by Dr Katie Long, Research Fellow in the Centre for Developmental Neurobiology at King’s College London. Katie's work looks at the development of the neocortex, the part of the brain responsible for memory, learning and thought. Katie's team are interested in how the neocortex forms, and how this can develop differently in people with conditions such as Autism and ADHD. They also look at how COVID can affect the brains of foetuses growing in the womb, and whether it has any long term impacts. Their work will help us all to understand memory and thought better, and to unpick how our brains and our experiences connect.

Katie will be talking to Steve Cross, a comedian and one of the programmers of the Medi-Culture Festival. Steve is a parent, has ADHD, and can never remember where he put his glasses.

Our chat will take an hour, and there will be lots of chances for people in the room to contribute and ask questions.

Tea and coffee & soft drinks will be available.

We'll be back on the 12th December to find out about Pain.
