Living Well with Medi-Culture: Pain

  • The Hive 8 Holyrood Street London, England, SE1 2EL United Kingdom (map)

In December we will be joined by Dr Kirsty Bannister, a Senior Lecturer at the Wolfson Centre for Age Related Diseases, King’s College London.

Kirsty’s team is interested in understanding how chronic pain is caused and develops. Chronic pain affects up to 20% of the adult population, so her team’s research is crucial in bridging the gap from bench research to bedside. Her work focuses on individuals who suffer with chronic pain, including Parkinson’s, IBS and Arthritis. Her team wants to understand how pain is caused and how we can treat it.

In conversation with Dr Kirsty Bannister will be Katy Swainston, a writer, comedian and digital expert with a background in archaeology, museums and heritage. Katy is a comedy writer for TV and radio, with an overqualified nervous system, who has suffered from chronic pain for over a decade.

Hosting the talk will be Phoebe Reynolds, a PhD student in Neuroscience at King’s College London. Phoebe is one of London's top sharers of scientific ideas, working with groups such as New Scientist and stage hosting at Green Man festival.

Tea and coffee & soft drinks will be available.
