Connected with Keats: John Hegley and friends

  • Chapel of Thomas Guy Guy's Campus London, England, SE1 1UL United Kingdom (map)

Celebrate John Keats's birthday with songs, poems, drawings, and vegetables, honouring the poet's passion and whimsy.

You sat outside on coaches
it encroached upon your health
your wealth did not provide the funds for you
to settle in the dry you'd have preferred.
You did the surgeon's training
But decided you were cut out for the word.
You were studying at Guys alongside Gerard Manley Hopkins's grandad
but you'd stand rather more with the grandson
than the grandfather affinity-wise
as you pulled out a stick of celery and took on the world regardless of your size.

John Hegley the former Keats House poet-in residence is joined by Jane Ireland (ukelele) and Clare Elstow (Guys church organ) for an hour or so of homage, a little Italian and a lot of biscuits (sorry, no cake )

There will be an option to donate to Medecins Sans Frontières as you leave the venue.
